April Hunter Exclusive Interview
by Afro-Squad.com

April Hunter

NWA-TNA Wrestler, nWo Valet & Playboy Model

In 2000 after Hunter appeared in Playboy, she was hired by Terry Taylor on behalf of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as a member of the nWo girls. Along with four other models (Tylene Buck, Kim Kanner (Shakira), Midajah and Pamela Paulshock), she accompanied members of the nWo to ringside for their matches. Hunter left WCW later that year to become a fully trained wrestler.

In 2001, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts to train at Killer Kowalski's School under Walter Kowalski. She was the only female in the class and soon began working on the independent circuit and overseas. Hunter formed a tag team with fellow Kowalski graduate Nikki Roxx in World Xtreme Wrestling known as The Killer Babes. Hunter also went on to form the tag team T & A with Talia Madison. Hunter also wrestled in Mexico for promotions such as Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and Lucha Libre Femenil. Other promotions she has worked in include Neo in Japan, A to Z, Zero One, Stampede in Germany, Big Time in the United Kingdom, PWX and Great Canadian in Canada, France-Catch in France, and IWA Puerto Rico.

April Hunter at the 2008 Anime North convention.  On August 28, 2002, Hunter appeared for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). She was introduced (and defeated) by then-Miss TNA Bruce as part of his Miss TNA Challenge. She returned several other appearances for TNA including matches against Desire, Eric Watts and John Walters.

You are into modeling, fitness, wrestling, and a host of other professions.  What career do you think brings you the most attention?

I would say modeling. But it's funny how things work...you're more of a novelty in wrestling if you're a model and you're more of a novelty in fitness if you wrestle. The grass is always greener...

What is your ultimate goal in modeling?

I never really had one. The modeling I did was pretty "unconventional" -- let's just say it wasn't high fashion. My goals were just to have fun, try not to get f'ked over, try lots of different looks and make it profitable. Oh, I did always wanted to be in Penthouse and never got there. That's my one regret. But I did Playboy.

What are some of the more well known publications that you have modeled in?

The aforementioned Playboy, Hustler, MuscleMag, Max, Ironman, Iron Horse, Pro Wrestling Illustrated, and a garden variety of nudie, men's, fitness and wrestling magazines.

What are some publications that you won't work with?

None. There are photographers I won't work with, like Rob Sims because he's a one of the ones who will f'k you over while smiling to your face, but that's about it.

Do you have anything for sale on your site that you would like to talk about?

Lots and lots of sexy, cool DVD's and videos. Oh, and my site.  www.AprilHunter.com

What is your ultimate goal in wrestling?

To travel the world on someone else's dime and to be the best female wrestling America, signed or unsigned.

What would you consider your favorite match?

Probably my match in Japan for AtoZ vs. Momoe Nakanishi. The Japanese women wrestlers are so good, they're often better than the Western men. This girl was really very, very good (she's retired from a neck injury) and didn't speak a word of English. I learned a lot that tour, especially how to keep on my toes!

What is your relationship with Slyck Wagner Brown?

Slyck is very a cool, very laid back Jamaican who is good at his one and only true love: wrestling. He's my tag team and travel partner. He also trained me (at Killer Kowalski's) and is one of my closest friends.

Compared to other female wrestlers, how do you rate yourself?

That's a hard question. I think I have a little extra going for me because I already had a name coming into wrestling and am lucky in that I have the height, a look and was trained by a very good school. But as far as my actual talent and matches...you'd have to ask the fans.

What do you think of other female wrestlers?  Maybe you can tell us your thoughts on Chyna, Trish Stratus, and Tracy Brooks.

I actually think pretty highly of the girls who work in and at wrestling. It can be a difficult business to stick to some days. Chyna is da' woman...she became one of the only female "household names" in wrestling. Trish is awesome and works very hard; hurt, tired, she gets out there and does it well. Tracy is one of my favorites to share a locker room with; she's real, gorgeous and fun.

How was your time at Killer Kowalski's school?  Chyna's book portrays him as a slave driver.

I know. That surprised me. I guess everyone has their own opinions about him, but Killer was always great to me. Warm, funny, perverted...a typical old wrestler! He was always willing to jump up, tell you how stupid you were being and show you how to get it right. I like him.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I really don't have a clue. I'm just going to run with the ball and hope it takes me far.

Thanks for your time, is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Thanks for reading! If you want to know and see lots more, check my site: www.aprilhunter.com
